On 18 October 2006, the Australian Spanish Business Association (ASBA) Galicia, Spain, will be celebrating the 160th anniversary of the Founding of New Norcia in Western Australia.
The Ambassador of Australia to Spain, His Excellency Mr Noel Campbell unveiled a plaque in the botanic gardens of the Galician palace of Marinan in La Corunna in commemoration to the splendid work done by the Spanish founder of this mission and the years he dedicated to the education of the Aborigine people of Western Australia.
The founder Dom Rosendo Salvado is also famous for the repopulation of the forests of the north-western part of Spain with the ever popular Australian Eucalypt.
For this occasion, the University of La Corunna will, at the same time, be holding an International Congress. A Call for Papers has been answered by many International academics who will be attending the Congress and the ceremony of the unveiling of the plaque with local dignitaries in attendance will be quite distinctive.
